Bus up to Machu Picchu

The train leaves you in Aguas Calientes, not at the gate. The bus climbs the switchback road from town to the citadel entrance in about 25 minutes, and it is what almost everyone takes on visit day.

Good to know

  • About 25 minutes per leg, with buses leaving roughly every 10 minutes.
  • Round trip, up only or down only.
  • Walking instead takes about 1 h 30 on the Inca stairway through the forest: some go up on foot at dawn and ride down, others the other way round.
