Who needs a visa for Peru

  • No visa needed: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and other EU countries, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Colombia, among others.
  • Visa unless you meet conditions: China and India: a visa is required, but holders of a valid visa or residence of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia or the Schengen area are exempt.
  • Everyone else: Check the Peruvian Foreign Ministry's table for your nationality, or ask the nearest Peruvian consulate.

How long you can stay

Peruvian law allows a tourist up to 183 days in a 365-day period, and the days you are granted are recorded when you enter. The UK government notes that visitors are normally granted up to 90 days within a 180-day period, and advises that your passport be valid for at least six months from arrival. Check the days you were given on entry and keep within them.

What Machu Picchu asks for

  • Your passport at the gate: The ticket is personal: the name and passport number on it must match the passport you show. A wrong digit can mean no entry.
  • Same passport you travel with: If you renew your passport after booking, the number changes. Tell the seller before you travel.
  • Not transferable: A ticket cannot be passed to another person. Book with the details of the person who will travel.
Entry rules can change. This page summarises official sources as of October 2026; confirm with your airline or the Peruvian consulate before you travel.
