What a Machu Picchu ticket includes, and what you pay for separately

Since the sanctuary moved to fixed routes, a ticket is not a pass to wander. It is one route, one hour and a time limit. Here is exactly what you get, what you do not, and the rules that come with it.

What the ticket includes

  • One route: Entry to one of the official routes (1A to 3D), on its signposted one-way path. The route decides what you see: compare all 11.
  • One date and entry hour: Your ticket names an entry hour. Arriving early means waiting; the tolerance after it is 30 minutes in low season and 45 in high season.
  • A maximum time inside: 2 h 30 on the standard routes, longer on the trail and mountain routes (see the table below).
  • Huayna Picchu or the mountains, only if the route says so: Huayna Picchu is route 3A, Machu Picchu Mountain is 1A. A Circuit 2 ticket does not include either.

What it does not include

  • The bus up: From Aguas Calientes to the gate, about 25 minutes, $24 round trip, bought in town. You can also walk up.
  • The train: To Aguas Calientes from Ollantaytambo or Cusco. With us you add the Inca Rail train in Mi Tour after booking the ticket.
  • A guide: Recommended but not mandatory since September 2026. You can add one at checkout. Do you need a guide?
  • Re-routing: You cannot switch to another route inside. Seeing two sectors means two tickets.

Every route: price and time inside

  • 2A, 2B, 1B, 3B: $62 adult, $39 child. Up to 2 h 30.
  • 1D Inca Bridge: $62 adult, $39 child. Up to 3 h.
  • 3D Huchuypicchu: $62 adult, $39 child. Up to 3 h 30.

The rules that come with it

  • Your ID must match: The name and document number on the ticket must match the ID you present at the gate. Check them before paying: a wrong digit can mean no entry.
  • Not transferable: A ticket cannot be sold, gifted or passed to someone else.
  • Small bags only: The limit is 40 × 35 × 20 cm; bigger bags go to the lockers at the entrance. No tripods, walking sticks, umbrellas or drones.
