The Temple of the Sun at Machu Picchu, and the tickets that pass it

In a city of straight walls, one building curves. The Temple of the Sun follows the shape of the rock it sits on, over a natural cave. Here is how you see it today, and which tickets take you there.

How you see it today

No ticket enters the Temple of the Sun. The routes that include it pass the official viewpoint that looks down on the curved wall, and the stop is part of the one-way path, so it comes at a set point of the visit.

Which tickets pass it

  • Circuit 2A and 2B — with the whole city: Route 2A and route 2B pass the Temple of the Sun viewpoint early in the visit, then go on to the Intiwatana, the Sacred Rock and the rest of the city. Up to 2 h 30, $62.
  • Circuit 3 — the lower sector: All four Circuit 3 routes start at the Temple of the Sun viewpoint. 3B Royalty is the shortest, up to 2 h 30; 3A, 3C and 3D add Huayna Picchu, the Gran Caverna or Huchuypicchu.
  • Circuit 1 — not this one: The panoramic routes stay on the upper platforms and trails and do not reach the urban sector.
