Questions about this ticket
- How much is the Sun Gate ticket (Circuit 1C)?
- $65.10 per adult and $40.95 for children aged 3 to 17, card fee included. It is the same price as the other Circuit 1 and Circuit 2 routes.
- What is Circuit 1C at Machu Picchu?
- Route 1C Intipunku: the two upper platforms of Circuit 1 plus the signposted trail to the Sun Gate, the original Inca entrance where the Inca Trail arrives, in up to 4 h. Like every Circuit 1 route it does not enter the Inka city.
- Is the Sun Gate hike worth it?
- Yes if you want the view that Inca Trail hikers get on arrival: the whole sanctuary from above, with the city small below you, on a trail with far fewer people than the platforms. It is a steady uphill walk, so bring water and allow the full 4 h.
- Do I walk part of the Inca Trail?
- You walk the final stretch of it in reverse: from the platforms up to Intipunku, the gateway through which the trail arrives at the sanctuary, and back. It is a signposted trail on the official map, not one of the 14 numbered landmarks.
- Does the ticket include the Inka city?
- No. The official route is entrance, the two platforms, the Intipunku trail and back to the exit. To walk the temples you need a Circuit 2 or 3 ticket on another day.
- Why does the route need 4 hours?
- The trail to the Sun Gate and back is the longest walk on Circuit 1 after the mountain. The 4-hour stay gives you time for both platforms, the trail at a normal pace and a while at the gate.
